Deborah SwartzHoliday Specials: Host
Deborah Swartz is a self-taught cook and a lifelong learner. Years ago a dear friend confronted her about her mistaken notion that not being able to cook was somehow linked to the women's liberation movement. Then it hit her: not knowing how to cook was NOT cool. This, coupled with a newlywed's budget for entertaining, led her to crack the books in a big way, and she has not stopped since. There is always more to learn about cuisine.
Food is a great equalizer, whether you’re a grower at the farmers' market or a three-star chef. Five years ago, she and friend Deanna Clark created Old Town Cooking School in Pasadena, in order to provide home chefs with skills, information and encouragement.
Old Town Cooking School also gives back to the community. The ONE CITY ONE COOKBOOK project is partnering with seven non-profit organizations to show off the diversity and plain good cooking in Pasadena and her surrounding neighborhoods. They are also producing a series of Cookbook Author Chats benefiting the Pasadena Public Library. These evenings will provide, free of charge, a chance to get up close to writers and cookers.
Deborah can currently be heard on her weekly radio show, Deb Dishes, on KSGV radio.
