Kate Homes
Kitchen Excursions with Kate
Kate Homes grew up in coastal Connecticut; in an Italian- Irish family with parents who loved to get the kids involved in the kitchen and expose them to all sorts of dining experiences. The Ferrara family loved to eat, and between the summertime spreads of peasant bread, gazpacho soup, summer sausage and smoked mozzarella, to the Sunday afternoon southern Italian feasts at her grandparents’ house, they were never for want of fun food extravaganzas.
Kate's love of vibrant, market driven, coastal cuisine was solidified while studying in the port city of La Rochelle, France. After earning a culinary degree she elevated her skills in fine-dining kitchens and came to focus on her Italian roots and the wide range of cooking styles throughout Italy. Though formally trained in French and Italian cooking, Kate loves discovering the nuances of a wide range of cuisines. Her cooking expresses her zest for travel and exploration with bright, vibrant flavors.
Kate now owns the New York-based personal chef service Carried Away. Having named her business after her outgoing personality and flair for the outrageous, Kate loves to use her culinary talents to entertain and delight the taste buds!
Crystal Campbell
Web & Graphic Design
I love all things creative, from graphic/web design, to singing/songwriting, and of course food! My mother is Lebanese, and she is an amazing cook. Growing up we enjoyed dishes like cabbage rolls & kibbee, but also her unique creations like the garden special. She could make a delicious meal out of any random food. I'm not the cook she is, but I try.
I've been designing websites almost 10 yrs with my company Tree C Design (www.treecdesign.com). I enjoy designing for all differet mediums: web, paper printing, t-shirt screen printing.
I'm a singer/songwriter and am excited to be recording my 3rd album (www.crystalcampbellmusic.com). Most importantly, I am a mother of 3 great kids, and celebrated 10 years of marriage with my husband (a talk, dark and handsome Bahamian who can cook!)
Lia Reconsal
Contributing Writer
Lia was lucky enough to have been raised having the best of many worlds; from the Filipino pork adobo to Chinese dimsum, Spanish paella, and many more. Brought up in a cultural melting pot, her heritage and upbringing has made her a more courageous eater. Now at a different culinary playground, her adventurous side has come out to play. She's tried almost everything in Los Angeles you can imagine; from the exotic, the regional favorites, the gourmet, and to the downright just plain good. But there's more places to be explored. Her passion for food led her to a deviation far from her 9-5 job; that of updating her own food blog liawrites.wordpress.com , producing articles for LA Comfort Food Out www.examiner.com/la-in-los-angeles/lia-reconsal and Pasadena Budget Nightlife www.examiner.com/budget-nightlife-in-los-angeles/lia-reconsal, Examiner.com, and contributing to many other food-related websites.
