Northridge, CA: The Soul Station

Northridge, CA is cooking up some soul.  The Soul Station is somewhat hidden among all the shops near the Northridge mall but is by the Guitar Center.   My dining companion and I have Southern USA roots so this type of food we are well aware of some of best taste offerings.  The verdict is...  The Soul Station has scrumptious soul food.  In fact, I watched several customers walk up to the owners to tell them just how good the food is at the restaurant.  A repeat customer dining there on this night was legendary recording artist Stevie Wonder.

You will not be disappointed from the fried chicken to the catfish to gumbo.  Soul Station prides themselves on taking their time to bring you perfectly golden brown and crisp fried food.   As for the side dishes, they are amazing.  The mac mac__cheese& cheese has a perfect blend of creamy texture with that crust just the way your southern relative would prepare it.  The fried cabbage is essentially sauteed cabbage and the flavors pop in your mouth.  It is a must have.  Everything from the collard greens to candied yams was superb.  The Soul Station strikes a good balance of seasoning without allowing the food to be too salty.

We finished the evening off with peach cobbler with ice cream of course.  Although the dessert is delicious, my dining companion and I have to admit we think the die hard peach cobbler lover might be a little dissapointed.  The dessert just doesn't have that chunky peach cobbler style.  It is a more reminiscent of a really delicious bread pudding.  I would order it again.
