In the Asian country of Turkey Eid is a very cheerful and happy day. Kids run around playing games and enjoying the festivities. Everyone loves to host parties and share food that has been prepared. For the children the festivities are similar to Halloween but for a religious purpose. They go door to door to pay their respect to the elders living in that house and are given candy or small amounts of money.
Next up is the African country of Tunisia. Tunisian’s main celebration theme of Eid is the cooking and food. Since Eid is over the course of 3 days, the citizens of Tunisia (mainly the wealthy) prepare colossal amounts of food for their fellow Muslims to share. Also many gifts are presented to children.
Afghanistan is constantly terrorized and harmed by the malicious Taliban. But for this three day course of Eid, the President of Afghanistan commanded the Taliban to cease all military actions in honor of this holiday. Afghan children participate in egg fights. They boil the eggs and throw them at each other for fun. It’s like a snowball fight!
We live in a global society where it is important to learn about different cultures of the world. Although the language, cultures and heritage of people around the world may differ, we can learn from and respect one another’s differences.
