Allie is MCCN's teen spokesperson on Childhood Obesity. She's a teen living in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. She will be doing 3 vignettes on quick & easy snacks for kids. In her first vignette, Allie makes a tasty and healthy fruit smoothie; her second vignette, she prepares a cheese and tomato bagel; and her third vignette she prepares a fruit and yogurt parfait.  In a recent interview with Allie, here is what she had to say about healthy living.

MCCN: Why is childhood obesity an important issue for you?

Allie: Childhood obesity is important to me because it is affecting my friends and family. It is one of the main health problems in America, and many diseases are related to it. Childhood obesity is 100% preventable, and I want to help prevent it. I truly that leading a healthy life will increase the quality of your life.

MCCN: What types of healthy meals do you and your family eat at home?

Allie: In my family, eating healthy is a big priority. We always have a starch, a vegetable, and a protein. Every meal should vary in color, and we stay away from packaged food. A favorite meal is ground chicken, tomato sauce, and rice. We always have at least one green vegetable, and possibly a vegetable of another color, like steamed carrots or sauteed bell peppers.

MCCN: In the United States alone, nearly 60% of children are obese, what do you do to stay fit?

Allie: I love to exercise! I am on a volleyball team, I dance at school, and I hike with friends. When I don't have a lot of time I try to sneak in quick exercise, like walking up the street with my dog, or running up and down the stairs.
