Ramadan is the holiest month for Muslims around the world. It is a time when Muslims are required to fast from sun up to sun down by refraining from food and drink. It’s also a time of giving, self reflection and rededication to the Islamic faith.
Ramadan is the month during which the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad in the 7th Century. At the end of the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid ul-Fitr, the Festival of breaking fast. It is usually marked by a three day holiday, prayer services and gathering with family, friends and the community for festivities. The holiday is a time also for charity, forgiveness and making amends.
