MCCN's Food History Managing Editor, Catrina Sally, attended the event and recapped with one of the event's coordinators, Ms. Cylia E. Lowe, Esq.
MCCN (Catrina Sally): How much of a success was the inaugural AKA Healthy F.I.T.T. Fair? About how many children and or community members participated?
Cylia: we are very pleased and consider the event to be a great success! Approximately 200 parents, children, and other community members came to support the event.
MCCN: What were some of the freebies/tokens handed out to fair visitors?
Cylia: Sanitizers from the Baltimore City Health Department, frisbees from Care First, key chains from Comcast, jump ropes, lunch bags, and pedometers from State Farm, to name a few.
MCCN: Any favorite moments or events of the day that stood out?
Cylia: The overall excitement the children had for the exercise demonstrations led by Charles “Chizel It” Harris & Nya Ferrell. The children really enjoyed the challenging exercises!
MCCN: Plans for next year?
Cylia: This was a successful partnership and the SEED School was a perfect location. Next year we will look to partner with other organizations in the area that wish to combat childhood obesity and work together for healthier generations. Other organizations, such as the Junior League of Baltimore, have expressed an interest in partnering with us (childhood obesity is a primary focus for them). So next year the goal will be bigger & better!
MCCN: How can an organization become involved with the fair?
Cylia: They can contact me. We would gladly welcome support from partners across the state. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
MCCN: Closing Comments?
Cylia: We would just like to thank everyone for their support and we truly appreciate the community for coming to the event and making it such a success. Lastly, if you attended the event please complete this online survey:
