The Abu Simbel temples were created to honor Pharaoh Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. Through precise engineering and planning, the pharaoh angled his twin temples so that twice a year- once on the anniversary of his rise to the throne, and on his birthday- natural light would fill the inner sanctum. The beautiful display can only be seen at sunrise and is culminated by a festival including music, dance and food.
October 22 and February 22 are the upcoming dates for the festival!
