Princess Kaiulani is the true story of a Hawaiian princess' attempts to maintain

the independence of the island against the threat of American colonization. By default the film get merits of engagement simply because it will take most on a historical journey not often traveled. However, this film is extremely choppy. The is no real execution of the love story. The audience gains any back story to help drive the movie.
Nevertheless, I still recommend it because rarely do we get a glimpse of this part of history.
The Food: There is a great spice discussion in the movie. (No spoiler) Have fun with the evening with the wearing of a Lei for guests. Poi is actually shown in the film.
Additionally let your menu consist of Polynesian Style Ribs complimented with Pineapple and sweet potato.
