Executive producer of the acclaimed "Whale Rider" Linda Goldstein Knowlton puts on the director hat to present Somewhere Between, a timely piece about the after effects for Chinese adoptees of cross cultural adoption.  Over the years there has been a rise adoption of children from China from people in the United States and other countries.  A common question posed before adopting is "How will the children fare"?  Somewhere Between answers the question as "Somewhere between."  For anyone considering adoption or not it is a film worth catching filled with both touching and disturbing stories.

This documentary follows female Chinese adoptees.  Some of the girls described themselves as a banana or twinkie meaning they are yellow on the outside and white inside.  As a women of color viewing this, it was extremely difficult to hear such naive statements.   It is would easier to hear them describe themselves as a blend inside.  For the most part the story follow adoptees who are well adjusted and generally happy in their adopted environment; however, a good percentage have desire to find birth parents or at least dig deeper into their culture identity.

The Food: It is a good time celebrate Chinese culture over dinner.  Try to find a more authentic Chinese restaurant.
