The Help is a bittersweet story based on the New York Times bestselling book about the 1960's south and its divide between African American women and the Caucasion women they worked for. Truly, most African Americans are tired of this kind of story; nevertheless, The Help does help a new generation become aware of the injustices of the past and just maybe how these injustices still trickle into society today.
As for acting, you can not go wrong with the powerful Viola Davis, enchanting Emma Stone plus scene stealers Bryce Dallas Howard and Octavia Spencer.
The Food: Whatever you don't have pie but do cook or order some fried chicken. Good fried chicken is the way to a man's heart in this film.
Your Mission, should you choose to accept it is to read this whole review: From Budapest to Russia to Dubai to India, Mission Impossible 4 is
one heck of a thrill ride. Tom Cruise is back and he's got friends. The Oscar nominated Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg comprise the ensemble cast of characters. Simon Pegg is especially great with delivering sporatic comedic moments. Even Josh Holloway from the ABC series Lost, graces the screen as an agent looking like he ought to be in pictures. Both Patton and Renner are good at bringing depth and vulnerability to their characters. Say what you want about Cruise but he is a solid anchor as the IMF(Impossible Missions Force) team leader and provides his special brand of intensity to his every action scene.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are back again as Sherlock Holmes and Dr.
Watson for another caper. This go round, the film has a slower pace. One can't help but compare the first Guy Ritchie production to the latest. Everything about the original film in the series was fresh and shocking but not so much this time.
Quite frankly, I found myself bored for much of the film to slumber but occassional funny moments would interupt my chance to sleep. The villian is understated and rather dull for most of the film. If you see a running theme regarding "most" there is a reason.
A feature film over a decade in the making,The Muppets was very much like a rollercoaster of happy emotions: from the chuckle, the hilarious, to the rolling off the floor laughing out loud. Strict on the idea of a family movie, The Muppets truly satisfies the kid in all of us whether we watch it with the true kids by our seats or just the kids at heart.
Although heavily promoted and critically lauded with praise, Warrior starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and veteran actor Nick Nolte vanished pretty quickly from theaters. It should not vanish from your radar. Warrior is a knockout. It relies on some corny themes to rally movie watcher root for one brother versus the other in the final match but the journey of watching this broken family is worth it. Furthermore, it has a dark indie cinematic feel and risky editing choices which contribute to the indie feel of this film.
