Celebrate National Hispanic Month and the contributions of American Latinos in Superior Arizona by visiting the grand opening of Corazon y Alma Cultural Center and Gallery on October 15, 2011. Registration begins at 10:00 A.M. and the program starts at 12:00 P.M.
Corozon Y Alma meaning Heart and Soul educates and celebrates the rich indigenous origins and heritage of Latino and Mexican American culture of Superior Arizona. Tony Chavez Acosta whose family culture is deeply rooted in Superior Arizona and Jeffery Ferns along with CUE (a non- profit organization that provides art, social and cultural experiences) work together to highlight the culture and contributions of the Latino American community by providing the center with cultural exploration experiences through art, music, lectures and food.
Key note speaker and commissioner for the American Latino Museum Lorraine Garcia Nakata, who has done extensive cultural awareness work in DC, will lead in an important dialogue that acknowledges the significant contributions of the Latino American Community and discuss the importance of cultural centers in the community.
The Corozon Y Alma Cultural Center was built to illuminate the experiences of family life in the real Latino American community and to preserve these memories for future generations. The building and overhead costs were generously donated by Dr. Joaquin Trujillo, who will be publishing a book about Superior in early spring.
Can’t make the Grand Opening? The cultural center will have several engaging events throughout the year to attend. In November, the center will have events and activities that will be focusing on 7 different world cultures through food and art.
