Anyone who has been to the area neighboring Pacoima, Sylmar and Mission Hills knows that it is a special place with beautiful Spanish architecture. The town is most frequented and inhabited with Mexican Americans. For 30 years, Lotus Bakery has been a local institution serving up birthday cakes, cookies and wedding cakes. However, for the last ten years the bakery has been under new management by Alex Farivar.
Much of the business is repeat customers but Farivar will still honor cake tasting
etiquette for weddings if you are new to his baked goods. Typically people order the white chiffon cake filled with strawberry, peach or pineapple. He says the fruit has no jams or preservatives. Average wedding cake prices span between $500 to $420. The cakes may serve between 190 to 310 people.
Among the popular cookies are the butter cookies, butterflies, and the Mexican wedding cookie which is shaped like a horse shoe for good luck for the bride and groom. The butterflies are drizzle with a sauce. They are quite different and tasty. The cherry filled cookies are light and fresh tasting. The walnut angel cookie is delightful and the texture of the nuts are complimentary.
