Here She is...Ms. Vanessa Williams

In 1983, the world heard the words, "Here she is, Ms America." It was quite the feat as the she layered the expression "Black is beautiful" with her light skin, golden hair and blue eyes.  Many Americans had not acknowledged the vast shades of African American beauty until Williams won.

 

Unfortunately, due to scandal her title was taken away from her but the talented Williams would soon show the world her range of talents from singing to acting.  Her songs would make Billboard's top 10.  She snagged roles in the the classic movie "Soul Food", became a scene stealer on "Ugly Betty" and now America can not wait to watch her become the latest neighbor on Wisteria Lane(Desperate HouseWives).

Her Cultural Background

Like most African Americans, Williams is a blend of heritages, in her case African, Welsh and Native American.
