July 29th is National Lasagna Day.

Lasagna is a classic Italian casserole dish consisting of alternating layers of lasagne, various sauces, and cheeses. Variations of the classic recipe include spinach, eggplant, tomato sauce, meat, and cheeses like Mozzarella, Ricotta, and Parmesan.

The term “lasagna” is thought to have derived from lasanon, the Greek word for “chamber pot.” The lasanon pot resembled the shape of lasagne noodles.

True foodies should take note that Italian Lasagne noodles are flat, while American noodles have sauce-capturing ruffles along the edges.  Foodie grammar buffs should remember that Lasagna is singular, whereas lasagne is plural.

Also various restaurants celebrate the day by offering free lasagna or half priced. Click here for deals
