Chess pie is a particularly sugary dessert characteristic of Southern U.S. cuisine. According to James Beard's American Cookery (1972) chess pie was brought from England originally, and was found in New England as well as Virginia.
Ingredients
- 3 Eggs
- 1 1/2 cup of Sugar
- 1 tablespoon of Flour
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 1/2 cup of buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Directions
Mix all the ingredients and pour into uncooked pie crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour.
Let cool for at least 55 minutes.
